Komm Mit Textbook Used – This is a call to all those who are interested in linguistics and most particularly to anyone who wants to learn a new foreign language and to do it thoroughly from “A” to “Z” and with all its “I”s dotted and its “T”s crossed.  And why might you be interested in linguistics or want to learn a foreign language?  Well, there are countless very compelling reasons but I will discuss only a handful of the following:

  • Linguistics is the study of the characteristics, arrangement and adaptation of language which includes its sounds (phonetics), the rules of its pronunciation (phonology), the patterns of its word formation (morphology), its grammatical rules (syntax), the meaning of its words (semantics), its role in society (sociolinguistics) and its practical usage (pragmatics).  In other words and in shorter terms, linguistics will bring you much closer to a language — any language, including your own.
  • Studying a foreign language, be it your second or your third or you umpteenth, opens more doors of communication with other peoples of different cultures, it makes you a much more rounded and by far more interesting and impressive person.  In addition, studying a foreign language exercises your mind and brainpower so that it improves your ability to learn anything and everything else as well.

But perhaps the most important argument for learning a new foreign language is the following — since your own mother tongue, whatever it may be, has many foreign derivatives from various origins, learning a foreign language will help you know your own language so much better that you will find yourself understanding and using the same multi-syllable words used by the more intellectual and better educated factions among us.

If I have succeeded in convincing you about the importance and benefits of learning a new foreign language, I would also like to persuade you to consider German as the next foreign language for you to study.  Why German?  Because German …

… is the most widely used language in all of Europe.
… is the mother tongue of Germany which has a strong economy, it is one of the biggest exporting nations in the world, it has a very prominent presence on the World Wide Web and the Internet and you might someday want to be involved in commerce with them.

… was spoken by one of the largest ancestral groups in the United States.
… is the language which occupies over 10% of the book publishing world.
… is not a very difficult language to learn.

The “Komm Mit” textbook series leads students from the most elementary level to upper levels with comprehensive diligence yet with fun cartoonlike illustrations and audio tapes that were obviously well thought out with good lesson structures in mind.

Enjoy your German lessons with “Komm Mit” textbooks and Herzlichen Glückwunsch!
